Many youth ministry strategies I've come across focus on securing the popular students and hoping they will attract the unlovely. This type of "kingpin evangelism" has been of little success in my humble observations. Granted, it is easy to minister to those who are self-absorbed and/or successfully socially-networked. They don’t need anyone! But these people tended to be the ones Jesus scolded for their lack of compassion and their abundance of spiritual independence. Do they need Jesus? Certainly. But as a strategy, the top-down method doesn't hold up.
