So this past Saturday my family went to the Hagerstown Suns Baseball team game. It was a doubleheader. The scouts were to be honored. It was a great nite until ...
After the game, the scouts were to sleep on the outfield. We slept between 1st and 2nd base ... Everyone had a tent. We (My family) were setting up our tent when a tent pole broke (That should of been the sign to go home right there) So in flexibility we decided to just sleep out under the stars on top of our tent. The movie was loud. about 1am ...I feel asleep with all 5 of us on top of our tent. The dew was thick. About 2am ...my lovely wife wakes me and tells me she is soaked. So we decide to pack it up and go home. Somewhere between 2-3am we make it home. I get a few hours sleep ...make it to church .... Baby dedication, sermon, hospital call, and memorial service all in one day. Some how when the Girl Scouts go to the Suns game in July ...I don't foresee us staying and camping at that game.http://feeds.feedburner.com/blogspot/ZioO |

| Stanley Cup Finals 2012 |

If earlier this season ...someone mentioned they think it would be a Kings-Devils Final ...everyone would call you crazy. And yet here we are. Most of it comes down to the battle of the goaltenders .... ole veteran guard in Brodeur and new in Quick.
Both teams have vets and good players. The rookie Adam on the Devils, the washedup, overpaid Ilya K, and the Kings have their own stars Brown being one. Their coach's family name "Sutter" is known throughout the hockey world.
Personally I'm hoping for the Kings to win it all. Why? Not since 1993 when the Great One last played for the Cup against the Habs has LA made it this far. Should be a good series. The real question is will Brodeur retire raising the Cup or retire not making it this year?

| Making Vision Stick - a review |

Making Vision stick. I'll be honest ... I really didn't like this book. Seemed more of a business model. With one of my favourite sermons from Phil Vischer, and his rant on "Vision Statements" This book was hard to swallow. I'd agree that our Vision (Revelation of God and His Word) is the lifeblood of my organization. Andy Stanley's little book tries to make your church grwo if you stick to your vision statement and go from there.
Though the personal illustrations (Such as almost getting mad at his son's baseball coach .... and yet turned out to be a witnessing tool is good)
There was one statement that hit home for me through the book found on page 62.
" ...but 90 percent of the prayer requests are about sick people from your leadership and staff, your vision is slipping. We pray for what we are most burdened for. If nobody in my leadership circle requests prayer for someone who is far from God, that's a big red flag for me."
The book was a short to the point read ...that I had to re-read several times to get the point. On a scale from one to 5 ...I'd give this book a 2.5.http://feeds.feedburner.com/blogspot/ZioO |
| A Beautiful Mess - A Review |

Marko's latest book about Youth Ministry is a Must for anyone in youth ministry. It is almost a follow-up from his book YM 3.0. He refutes the "Sky is falling" in the youth ministry world that a lot of us have been saying for years. He talks of the components of a great youth ministry - love youth, willing to grow as a follower of Jesus, willing to do so in the midst of students.
What I like most about Marko's latest book is his honest, transparent evaluation of youth ministry and encouragement. His "Bigger Youth Ministries" isn't always better statements sums it up. The author basically states that God can use churches and youth ministries of all sizes - both big and small ... and not to be caught up in the comparison game but be who God has called you to be. It seems to be a beautiful mess that God is using groups of all sizes to reach the "Michaels" of the world and not just write them off.
The concluding remarks about being intentional ... through humility, learning, and knowing that it is God in control, not us. This book is a reminder to youthworkers why we do what we do.

| Preach: Theology Meets Practice - A Review. |
From Deep Thoughts by Gman on Thursday, May 31, 2012 @ 8:40 AM PST
in the "Blog" Category.
Just finished reading this book. The authors break the book into three parts
Part One: theology of preaching. God speaking, power of His Word, Expositional preaching, and what preaching does.
(almost a reminder of why do we preach the Word each week)
Part Two is the Practice. (Application and practicality of it) It includes what to preach, prep, structure of the sermon, delivering, and reviewing.
Part Three is the author's sample and discussing their sermon transcripts.
Personally Part Three was ok to see what the author's did but Part Two was worth the book's price in gold. It helped as one is to preparing to concluding the sermons. It was a good reminder to "Preach the Word, in season and out of season."
Those going into the preaching ministry - need a copy of this book.

| Lost and Found Needs Your Help!! |

I've been a fan of Lost and Found for years ... Almost a decade now. Every NYWC (National Youth Workers' Convention) I'd rather see them than any other band (Even Crowder) ...maybe its their crazy style, maybe its the Canadian song, maybe its Slinky, or maybe it is just George and Michael's passion for God. I've even put together a video and used it for a sermon illustration (See Baby youtube here)
They are working on a new album and need help supporting it. Info found here
If you can help ... that would be great. If not, if you can pray ...that would be great too! Thanks.

Winner vs Loser
by: Author Unknown, Source Unknown
The Winner is always part of the answer;
The Loser is always part of the problem.
The Winner is always has a program;
The Loser always has an excuse.
The Winner says,"Let me do it for you;
The Loser says;" That is not my job."
The Winner sees an answer for every problem;
The Loser sees a problem for every answer.
The Winner says," It may be difficult but it is possible";
The Loser says,"It may be possible but it is too difficult."
When a Winner makes a mistake, he says," I was wrong";
When a Loser makes a mistake, he says," It wasn't my fault."
A Winner makes commitments;
A Loser makes promises.
Winners have dreams;
Loser have schemes.
Winners say," I must do something";
Losers say,"Something must be done."
Winners are a part of the team;
Losers are apart from the team.
Winners see the gain;
Losers see the pain.
Winners see possibilities;
Losers see problems.
Winners believe in win/win; Losers believe for them to win someone has to lose.
Winners see the potential;
Losers see the past.
Winners are like a thermostat;
Losers are like thermometers.
Winners choose what they say;
Losers say what they choose.
Winners use hard arguments but soft words;
Losers use soft arguments but hard words.
Winners stand firm on values but compromise on petty things;
Losers stand firm on petty things but compromise on values.
Winners follow the philosophy of empathy: "Don't do to others what you
would, not want them to do to you";
Losers follow the philosophy, "Do it to others before they do it to you."
Winners make it happen;
Losers let it happen.

| In a Second .... |

A man goes to church and starts talking to God.
He says: "God, what is a million dollars to you?"
and God says: "A penny",
then the man says: "God, what is a million years to you?"
and God says: "a second".
then the man says: "God, can I have a penny?"
and God says "In a second."http://feeds.feedburner.com/blogspot/ZioO |
