American Idol, Tasha Layton and Worship Pastors

I had a chance to ask Tasha Layton, worship pastor from California, a few questions about what was her decision in deciding to try out for American Idol. I believe God gives each one of us a platform to which we can share who God is in our lives. Some people have a platform that can reach many and some have a platform that reaches a few. However, neither one is less important. Sometimes God stretches us and gives us more of an influence through opportunities and circumstances that comes our way. Tasha in her obedience to follow God’s leading was giving this opportunity, here are her thoughts.

Here is a basic outline for a youth message on making life transformation Revolutions in their lives. Title: New Year’s Revolutions Idea: Make a Revolution in the way you live rather than just a resolution. People view a revolution as a major change or transformation and they view resolution as an attempt to try and do better [...]

Youth Ministry Tip #7: Instead of asking your students what they learned, ask them what questions they have about what you taught. How many times have you stood before teenagers and ask them what they learned last week or what they remember? Probably more than you should have. Usually you get the [...]

Ok, I will have to give props to our Worship Pastor Aaron Leeds for this one. We had a game where we wanted people to come up front and try and answer some cool trivia questions about Christmas. We thought of having them raise hands and see who did it the quickest then [...]

Youth Ministry Tip #5: Don’t do ministry tasks that you can get leaders/volunteer’s to do. Invest your time in growing your volunteers. So many times in ministry we think it is not only easier but more effective if we do tasks ourselves. We know it takes time to teach someone to do something [...]

Why is it that when our husband/wife doesn’t do something the way we want, when we want we feel angry and frustrated? Why is it when someone forgot to take out the trash that instead of thinking, “I know they must of just forgot, if I ask them nicely I am sure they will [...]

We want a discussion about what creative ways you are teaching the Christmas message but still remaining biblically faithful. It is so hard for youth pastors to stay fresh for students yet make sure we don’t water down the significance of the Christmas message. Please leave your thoughts and ideas on what you will be teaching during the Christmas Season. Any catchy and relevant titles would be fun too!

Grace & Truth in Ministry
YouthMinistryHelper.com From YouthMinistryHelper.com on Sunday, March 29, 2009 @ 12:42 PM PST

I was watching a DVD with David Nasser teaching. He made a statement that hit me like crazy. It was about Grace and Truth. He was discussing the story of a girl who was trying to show others that Christianity is not about Condemning people but about loving them. He made this statment, "If we only come at people with Truth then we can be too legalistic, and if we come at people with only Grace we can come off as too liberal. We need to find that balance of Grace and Truth."

Think on that and begin applying it in your converstations in ministry with your students and your leaders.
